Amra’s Telling of The Dark Web

The Illegal Side of The Internet

DISCLAIMER:

  • For your own safety please do not try to access the dark web, it’s far from a safe place to be.
  • I purely accessed it for research purposes.

So what is this so called “dark web”?

The dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets, overlay networks that use the Internet but require specific software, configurations, or authorization to access.

It can be explained through the simple picture on the right.

Basically it’s the gangster area of the WWW and it’s really not a place for a casual internet person to be.

Now I personally have gone on the dark web and it honestly is not a really fan place to be at.

From drug websites to possible human trafficking websites.

On the left you can see an example of a website and what it looks like and below is a fun video of a YouTuber exploring some websites on there.

One of The Main Browsers

The main browser that is used for searching on the dark web is called Tor browser. People use it for many thing and they also love it because of just how secure you are in the browser.

It comes with a built in VPN so as soon as you open the application it connects you to another country and masks your IP address from wesbites, keeping you safe.

Some Other Websites

Be Careful: Scams!

Red Rooms are one of the most well known scams on the dark web. But before I explain how they were proven to be fake here’s an explanation on them:

  • A red room is a composite urban legend. It is allegedly a hidden website or service on the “dark web” where you can see and/or participate in interactive torture or murder. It is essentially the snuff film legend retold for the YouTube era.

Now the reason they were proven to be only a myth is because of this:

  • “It’s near-impossible to stream live video over the Tor network (or even other anonymity networks like I2P and Freenet). So, that would render a service like a red room (i.e. a site that streams live torture and murder) impossible, and certainly not profitable.”

The Conclusion

In conclusion don’t go onto the dark web because it is a really bad place to be.
